Smoothness properties of a regularized gap function for quasi-variational inequalities

چکیده
This article studies continuity and differentiability properties for a reformulation of a finite-dimensional quasi-variational inequality (QVI) problem using a regularized gap function approach. For a special class of QVIs, this gap function is continuously differentiable everywhere, in general, however, it has nondifferentiability points. We therefore take a closer look at these nondifferentiability points and show, in particular, that under mild assumptions all locally minimal points of the reformulation are differentiability points of the regularized gap function. The results are specialized to generalized Nash equilibrium problems. Numerical results are also included and show that the regularized gap function provides a valuable approach for the solution of QVIs.

On Gap Functions for Quasi-Variational Inequalities
For variational inequalities, various merit functions, such as the gap function, the regularized gap function, the D-gap function and so on, have been proposed. These functions lead to equivalent optimization formulations and are used to optimization-based methods for solving variational inequalities. In this paper, we extend the regularized gap function and the D-gap functions for a quasi-vari...
متن کاملSome Methods Based on the D-Gap Function for Solving Monotone Variational Inequalities
The D-gap function has been useful in developing unconstrained descent methods for solving strongly monotone variational inequality problems. We show that the D-gap function has certain properties that are useful also for monotone variational inequality problems with bounded feasible set. Accordingly, we develop two unconstrained methods based on them that are similar in spirit to a feasible me...
متن کاملOn a Smooth Dual Gap Function for a Class of Quasi-Variational Inequalities
A well-known technique for the solution of quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) consists in the reformulation of QVIs as a constrained or unconstrained optimization problem by means of so-called gap functions. In contrast to standard variational inequalities, however, these gap functions turn out to be nonsmooth in general. Here it is shown that one can obtain an unconstrained optimization ref...
متن کاملError bounds for proximal point subproblems and associated inexact proximal point algorithms
We study various error measures for approximate solution of proximal point regularizations of the variational inequality problem, and of the closely related problem of finding a zero of a maximal monotone operator. A new merit function is proposed for proximal point subproblems associated with the latter. This merit function is based on Burachik-Iusem-Svaiter’s concept of ε-enlargement of a max...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Parameterized Variational Inequalities
We discuss in this paper local uniqueness, continuity and differentiability properties of solutions of parameterized variational inequalities (generalized equations). To this end we use two types of techniques. One approach consists in formulating variational inequalities in a form of optimization problems, based on regularized gap functions, and applying a general theory of perturbation analys...
